Cepaka terraces
Cepaka, Bali, Indonesia

375 sqm / 4050 sq ft
Situated on a hillside in a newly developed area of Bali, this 8-unit apartment complex is composed of four distinct blocks that step down the natural slope. Rather than leveling the terrain, the architecture follows it, allowing each volume to sit comfortably within the landscape while maintaining openness to surrounding greenery.
A central pedestrian pathway meanders through the site and serves as the primary organizing element. At each subtle shift, the path widens into small garden pockets that create moments of pause and social interaction. This landscaped sequence establishes a gradual transition from entry to unit, reinforcing a sense of arrival while maintaining permeability and airflow.
The facades are articulated with breezeblocks and continuous planter bands that trace the changes in elevation. These horizontal elements emphasize the cascading arrangement of the buildings, while integrated planting softens the massing and introduces texture and shadow.
Access to the second-level units and shared rooftop decks is provided by two sculptural staircases positioned along the pathway. The rooftops extend living space outdoors, offering shared areas for gathering and capturing breezes and views across the landscape. The result is a compact residential cluster that balances density with openness, integrating circulation, landscape, and architecture into a cohesive hillside composition.
