Irama House

rama House is a collection of seven one bedroom residences located in the village of Buduk, just minutes from Canggu in Mengwi, Bali. The project focuses on climate responsive design and a clear architectural language rooted in local context.

Irama means rhythm in Bahasa Indonesia. The name refers to the vertical elements on the facade, which create a consistent pattern and produce deep shadows throughout the day. These vertical screens and fins provide shading while giving the building a strong visual identity.

The layout is organized around a central courtyard with a shared pool and covered lounge. Deep overhangs and facade screens reduce direct solar gain, and large openings promote cross ventilation. An existing temple and mature trees are retained on site and integrated into the overall planning.

Interiors use a restrained material palette including limewash plaster, wood, rattan, and natural stone. Units are designed for efficient living, with integrated storage, practical kitchens, dedicated work areas, and clear separation between private and shared spaces.

Irama House is a compact, site specific residential project that prioritizes environmental performance, functional layouts, and a direct response to the surrounding Balinese setting.
